“Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be.”
-Grandma Moses
Ah, living a Yummy Delicious Life! Doesn’t that sound just yummy delicious, like eating a scrumptious, delectable, mouthwatering, delightful, tasty, meal? Remember when you ate something so yummy-delicious and you couldn’t help but say, “YUMMMMM,” as you tasted it in your mouth?
So, how does eating a yummy-delicious meal that you absolutely love, relate to living a Yummy Delicious Life that you absolutely love? What does that even mean? Is it really possible? And, if so, how do we do that? In this article, we will explore what it means to live (and not live) a yummy-delicious life and how to prepare yourself by feeling better every step of the way.
What it means NOT to live a Yummy Delicious Life
Let’s start by exploring what it means NOT to live a yummy-delicious life. Not living a yummy-delicious life means you’re most likely spending more time entertaining negative thoughts in your head than positive thoughts. That’s a simple explanation. More importantly, you feel bad more of the time than you feel good. Or you may even be running a low-grade depression and hiding it behind your glowing personality, so no one knows.
In not living a yummy-delicious life, you are settling for a-less-than-wonderful-life. You more than likely are letting fear of going after your dreams get in the way because you believe it just isn’t possible or you don’t deserve receiving it. What about settling for being in relationships that are not gratifying and fulfilling? In addition, you could think you’re not worthy of living a happily-ever-after-life at all. Oh boy, if that’s not a life-crusher, I don’t know what is!
Furthermore, not living a yummy-delicious life is way too easy to do, since we think it’s “safer” to just give up on our dreams, based on the limiting beliefs that run our lives. “Who am I to be successful?” “It’s too hard.” “I don’t know enough.” “I’m not good enough.” “What if I become successful and no one likes me anymore?” “How can I get out of this toxic relationship?” “I just have to accept that I won’t be happy my whole life.” “That’s just the way it is.” “I won’t be able to make it on my own.” These are just some of the questions and statements that I’ve heart from my clients, and they are not alone.
Love is not weak
When we express our dreams and desires, we come from a place of love with innocent aspirations. We are hopeful and optimistic. As a result, we are also vulnerable, because we wear our hearts on our sleeves.
Also, there are times when we come from love, we are slammed to the ground by those naysayers who don’t want the best for us! (Yes, there are those people in our lives. Sometimes even family members. Imagine that!) Equally important, coming from the heart with love is often perceived as “weak,” and our dreams are either crushed with judgment or put down with resentment and envy.
Keep love alive no matter what! Make sure you only share your dream and desires with people who support you 100%. No need to get outside approval from those who don’t. It’s like giving someone a raw egg to hold and they crush it in an instant, like it’s nothing.
In general, our society does not often hold the space for vulnerability or love, because these values appear as “weaknesses”. Weakness is pretty much frowned upon in our society. Just look at how we treat our elderly who are often frail and sick. That’s a whole other topic, which I’ll talk about another time.
The power of love
Considering vulnerability and love as weaknesses can’t be further from the truth. LOVE IS THE MOST POWERFUL ENERGY IN THE UNIVERSE!
I know I put that sentence all caps, like I’m shouting, but it’s true. We underestimate the power of love so much that we allow ourselves to be afraid of love. Can you imagine that? Being afraid to love, to be loved and to be loving? Fear, pride, and anger often take a front seat and become more important than love. It’s crazy!
Love is that invisible magical, mystical, and powerful ingredient that is so powerful, it can create a whole human being, however, humans often run from love out of fear. You’d think we would run TOWARDS love, and stand up to it, but we don’t.
Do you fight to be happy?
How often have you found yourself fighting for your limitations or justifying why you feel so miserable? We fight more to stay unhappy than to remain happy and joyful. We often feel “guilty” if we live a joyful and happy life. Why do you suppose that is? It certainly isn’t energy-giving, and in fact, it’s energy-draining! Just think of all the energy it takes to convince someone why your life is so miserable! I mean, really!
I know people who, to this day, feel (a false) sense of “power” when they blame others for their miserable-feeling lives. They tell you over and over “why” they are so miserable. It’s because of what “he or she” did or said. Consequently, it’s always the other person’s fault. After a while, you just end up agreeing with them and saying, “You’re right. Your life sucks!”
Stop blaming others
These people play the “Fingerpointyitus” game, pointing the finger out and blaming others for their feelings or situation. Under those circumstances, it’s like giving someone else the remote control over their own sense of well-being. This does not make sense at all!
Blaming others is not the way to living a yummy-delicious life. It’s quite the opposite, so STOP blaming others for how you feel! Take the remote control back and live your life from the inside-out.
Take responsibility for your actions
Living a Yummy Delicious Life means taking responsibility for what you think and BElieve, how you feel, how you BEhave, and who you BEcome. There is no one outside of you to blame for anything. It is you and only you, me and only me. It is up to us to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, “What am I bringing to the table of my life? Am I bringing love? Am I blaming others for how I feel?”
As spiritual beings having a human experience, we have the privilege of being able to live life from our highest and greatest good, being nourished through our spiritual nature. We are made up of both, human and spirit. We cannot be any other way. Our spiritual nature feeds our human existence with pure energy from the vast unseen, nonphysical universe (filled with love).
Our spirit (soul energy) animates us, moves our bodies, beats our hearts, and allows us to speak our words. It’s a frickin’ miracle if you ask me! We can always get better, do better and feel better. We can’t leave that part up to anyone else.
Live from your heart and soul
In effect, it’s up to each one of us to make our human experience the best it can be. As a result, we get to live from our heart and soul’s desire to experience being human, and everything that encompasses. Therefore, it is up to us to be joyous and happy. No one “makes” us anything. We are not victims. When we look in the mirror and take full responsibility for our own joy, THEN, we can live yummy-delicious lives!
What if one of the agreements our souls made in being human was just to experience as much joy and love as possible? Couldn’t it be that we were meant to fulfill our dreams with care, kindness, consideration, and love? Wouldn’t that be enough?
I decided to go back and re-read Chapter 3 (“Heart-Driven: The Joy Factor”) from my book, “What Do You Bring to the Table? A Savory, Sensory, and Inspirational Guide to Living a Yummy Delicious Life.” In that chapter, something I read stuck out, “When we are heart-driven, we exude and bring out those yummy-delicious flavors in ourselves reflected in a wide variety of feelings emanating from pure love.” YES!
We could spend time just unpacking that one sentence. I also read, “Being consciously heart-driven re-awakens the very essences that help us steep in the sense of joy, kindness, honor and regard, among other essences that make up for a joyful, happy life.” Another resounding, YES! If you haven’t read the book, I highly recommend it. It even has some yummy-delicious recipes you can try, along with some happy mindful meditations.
Make your life the best it can be
Our lives don’t have to be terribly wrong to transform something inside us. Our lives can be good, and they can get BETTER, becoming GREAT! Going from good to great takes the same energy and effort as going from bad to worse. Which side of the Yummy-Delicious Life Scale do you want to play on? Every step in every transformation needs tending. Make your life the best it can be, and when you feel BETTER, just know there is progress.
After reading that chapter again, it reminded me that living a Yummy Delicious Life truly is up to each of us, and why in the hell would we NOT strive for that?
